Review

Curcumin by Now Foods is a powerful antioxidant taken from the root of the turmeric plant that scavenges free radicals protecting cells from oxidative damage. This class of molecules are known to support cardiovascular health, promote neuronal cell health and support a healthy intestinal tract. Some scientists believe that regular ingestion of this spice may lower the rate of Alzheimer’s disease and may explain why the incidence of Alzheimer’s disease is lower in India where they eat this spice daily. Mice studies demonstrated that curcumin was able to reduce amyloid protein deposits in cholinergic neurons by preventing these proteins from aggregating. These proteins accumulate in Alzheimer’s disease generating neurofibrillary tangles and plaques causing neuronal cell bodies and axons to become abnormally shaped and eventually fragment. Curcumin is also reported to have anticancer properties particularly prostate cancer. It is thought that curcumin enhances tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis in cancer cells. Apoptosis is programmed cell death encoded on the genome by suicide genes. Curcumin has also been reported to slow down the progression of multiple sclerosis and leukemia.

User Opinions

A consumer recommends this as good product with very good quality at best value. They use lots of Curcumin and it seems to be “doing the trick”.

A consumer who lacks a gall bladder tried drinking Turmeric tea sweetened with stevia, but it created so much acid in his stomach at bed. According to one doctor, you need a couple of teaspoons full of turmeric so taking these capsules at meal time when the acid could be absorbed by food eaten should be the best alternative. Turmeric is recommended for Parkinson’s disease.
